Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are a very popular and safe form of eye correction today. We have an entire range of contact lenses to suit everyone’s needs.

Whether you have a high prescription, need help with reading or just for sporting, cosmetic or social activities, there will be a contact lens that suits you.

Contrary to popular belief age isn't a barrier to contact lens wear. We have patients as young as 8 and as old as 80 wearing them. Varifocal contact lenses and overnight wear are all now available and the technology is continuously changing so even if a few years ago you were not able to wear contact lenses you may be able to now. Recent advances in lens materials mean that lenses have improved for people who suffer from dry eyes and they can now wear lenses which are comfortable throughout the day.

Types Available

Daily Disposable – for both comfort and convenience these lenses are ideal. Worn as little or as often you want and thrown away after each wear so no solution or cleaning is required.

Planned Replacement – Either available in fortnightly or monthly disposable form. These lenses are an excellent value soft lens ideal for the everyday contact lens wearer. They do require cleaning with solution at the end of each day.

Extended Wear – New contact lens materials now allow safe continuous contact lens wear for up to 30 nights. Perfect for those who have a non-stop lifestyles or work shifts.

Progressive (Multifocal) Lenses - Offer clear vision at all distances - Near, far or intermediate.

Coloured (Cosmetic) Lenses - For any occasion, whether you fancy a new look or just want to create an impact.

Complicated Prescriptions - Non-disposable soft lenses or gas permeable lenses are available which can be tailor-made to the exact needs of the patient, often giving excellent results.

We are able to supply all types of contact lenses. Each patient will be given the choice of a range of types and modalities of contact lens wear after a discussion tailored towards your needs.

New Technology

Advancement in Contact lenses has progressed greatly over the past year, new materials and designs being introduced all the time. The latest material being Silicon Hydrogel which comes in many Lens designs. These are healthier and allow a longer wearing time. Please arrange an appointment so we can address your specific needs.

Aftercare

It is essential that all contact lens wearers receive regular contact lens checkups (aftercare) to ensure minimum risk of complications. Compliance and hygiene are necessary for healthy contact lens wear and these will all be discussed during the initial trial period. After the assessment, aftercare will be pre-booked, usually every 6 months or more often if required. A standard eye examination is still required every one or two years.
